Do not raise your hand against the boy, or do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your favored one, from Me (Genesis 22:12).

Abraham, with total willingness, bound his son Isaac for sacrifice. At the decisive moment when the knife was raised for slaughter, his hand is stayed by divine directive. Why would the God who commanded sacrifice rescind his command?
